CONNECTING SOCIETY IN STUDENTS' LEARNING THROUGH ICT
INFORMATION AND COMMUNICATION TECHNOLOGIES
Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) is a term for
Information Technology (IT), which encompasses all information sharing
technology such as the internet, wireless communications, cell phones,
computers, applications, middleware, video conferencing, networking sites, and
other media applications and services that enables people to access, extract,
hold, convey, and try to influence digital data.
Components of ICT
ICT refers to both the
internet-connected world and the mobile world driven by wireless networks. It
also comprises outdated technologies like landline telephones, radio, and
television broadcasting, which are nevertheless widely utilized today alongside
cutting-edge ICT components like artificial intelligence and robots.
The list of ICT components is long,
and it's still growing. Computers and telephones, for example, have been around
for decades. Others, such as cellphones, digital televisions, and robotics, are
newer additions.
ICT in Education
The education system must take on
the task of progressively introducing all technologies that may benefit
learning outcomes in some manner, and ensuring that students learn to utilize
them in a world where they are already a part of work and personal lives.
Used technologies in Classroom
Blog and social network: It allows us to form work groups in which
students may present or discuss various themes, create information connected to
the subjects, and so on.
Planning through tools: Exams,
deliveries, processes, and other tasks may all be scheduled with the use of
calendars and task organizers.
Data storage in the cloud: It gives us the ability to collaborate
while working from any device and from any location. Office packages, storage,
and other tools are examples of tools that employ this technology.
Digital whiteboards and interactive
tables: Whiteboards allow you to
project and control pictures from a computer, take notes and comments, and save
and/or email the screen. The engaging tables facilitate interaction directly
with the surface of the table.
Online assessments, such as hundreds
of test questions, comprehensive student progress, assessment standards, and
the construction of processes, are added to e-learning systems like Pedagoo.
Role of ICT
Studies have demonstrated that
ICT aids in the delivery of education in a variety of ways, including the
development of opportunities for learners to participate and the learning of
information. Motivations, different teaching abilities, and high throughput of
instructors are all important factors in teachers' use of technology in
education. These are crucial talents for the information age, which also gives
weight to the introduction of innovative methodologies.
Communication and information
access may be a powerful social activity; as a result, ICT has the potential
innate capacity to create new information and communication models through its
end-to-end information sharing flow at a cheap cost.
ICT as social transformation
ICT as an instrument for
empowerment and social transformation has yet to be completely realized. The
role of education in reshaping societies in emerging nations is undeniable, as
evidenced by how society and culture respond to political, social, and economic
upheavals.
Distance learning centers also
provide education to people who do not have the financial means to attend a
full-time program. Eg open university introduced in nigera, Nepal eliminates
the barrier of face-to-face classroom teaching and reduction in contact time. ICT's
emergence as a game-changer caused enormous structural changes in practically
every aspect of human civilization, resulting in a rapid and gradual societal
revolution.
Role of ICT in educational development
The goal of education is to improve
one's skills and knowledge. Education is a branch of study that deals with the
delivery of education as well as acting as a tool for social change and
development that is an important element in the development process. Education
improves people's productivity and creativity while also encouraging
entrepreneurship and technical innovation. It also aids in guaranteeing
economic and social growth in order to enhance income distribution. There has
been a global transition in recent years from indigenous (traditional)
education to technology-driven (modern) education, which might be linked to the
rise of IT education, which triggered a tsunami in the education business. This
is motivated by a desire to address the inconsistencies seen in certain
emerging countries' educational curricula so that they can compete with the
world's developed nations.
Education, ICT and social transformation
There are several connections
between ICT and education, which have been thoroughly shown in industrialized
nations across the world. ICT has been used into a variety of learning
situations, including formal, non-formal, and informal learning. Many people in
modern cultures, for example, have access to ICT devices via which they may
acquire a great deal of information that impacts or influences their
decision-making. In industrialized nations, ICT is employed in formal education
to obtain a favorable outcome.
Introduction of microcomputer in
uk for teaching math, Introducing ICT in school curriculum in Saudi Arabia helped
to instruct students Integration of ICT into education has evolved into a
process with far-reaching ramifications; it is a technical instrument that
advances the educational environment. The introduction of teaching construction
and technique of a building based on technology usage of education increased
the consolidation of desirable learning. The ICT revolution is aided by the use
of educational tools that have resulted in an increase in student education
quality through the use of technical instruments such as calculators,
television sets, and voice recorders, among others, to make learning easier.
About connecting society with students we can many tools like
1. Facebook group: Making face book group with teacher, student and parents can help to connect society with students
2. Podcast: tools like YouTube, podcast can help student to transfer their learning in society as well they can be well informed as well.
3. Blog: About blog it can be used as same as pod cast about where exchange of information can be done
4.Mobile learning: Mobile learning can be great ICT Tools to connect society in students learning. With the help of mobile learning students who are at distance can still get high quality education.
Conclusion
Education's importance as a
fundamental tool for social development and modernization cannot be overstated.
The quality of a society's education determines its degree of growth;
consequently, for a nation to be on par with others, it must devote substantial
attention to the education of its citizens. In order to fully benefit from the
benefits of ICT, people must be literate. It is the backbone of national
development, as well as an engine and catalyst for growth. ICT is a strong
instrument for social transformation, with the ability to empower individuals
to positively impact people's lives in order to create social change. To avoid
being cut off from the rest of the world, emerging nations must assure the
expansion of ICT so that they may join the mainstream of information flow. ICT
and information are now considered key components in any country's
socioeconomic growth. However, in order for ICT to be an effective weapon for
promoting social causes, it must be packaged to meet the requirements of the
people, and this must be accompanied by training and system development
programs for IT experts who can adapt ICT to fit local demands.
