video for teaching lessons
Video for teaching lessons
It generally means adding a short video to your lesson plan for more effectiveness in teaching
Here's a sample video of my lesson plan and how it went in a short summary.
Importance of Video
for teaching lessons
1. Engagement: Video
learning has been shown in studies to have a affirmative impact on
multiple levels, including increased encouragement and in-depth learning,
and it can specifically influence students' potential to coordinate discussions
and develop solutions.
2. Effectiveness:
Video learning is useful on both edges of the schoolroom; instructors can use
it to create moment for student engagement. Once created, a video can be reused
and subsequently revised, freeing up time in the classroom for live
consultations and class participation.
3. Authenticity: Without
ever being in the same room, video embraces both the pupil and the instructor
in a one-on-one relationship. According to a compelling 2016 study conducted by
the Online Learning Consortium, video assisted educators in developing and
maintaining genuine relationships with students.
4. Inspired thinking:
Visual cues coupled with voice input play a significant role in original stuff
comprehension and retention. According to Forrester Research analyst James Mcquivey,
one minute of video is approx 1.8 million written words. When learners are
exposed to complex content through the use of video in the classroom, they are
made to consider introspectively.
5. Video for all:
Video can help close this training gap by allowing both general and special
education teachers to teach students at their own speed. Students can
watch same video as many times as they need to in order to understand
and retain information. For an example when a video is captioned a deaf student
and those who need to read can be covered with such a video
How can we use video
to teach effectively?
Surely adding videos on lesson plan helps but using it smart can help to gain lot of productivity in students. We can definitely discuss some points where we can improve to be smart facilitator
1. Choose video of not more than 6 minutes
2. Video should be of
point.
2. Do first explain what the video ( English, Nepali or any other ) is about so that student brainstorm the topic before they learn. If the video is in different than in native language then it will also give confidence to students to listen and pay attention and learn.
3. Give students question regarding the video before hand and ask them to pay attention to the question while watching the video.
3. After finishing the video, give them some time to think, Don't ask them to start writing right away.
4. Ask student to write the answers in their own way, and own language without any pressure. Do let them know that it is absolutely fine to make mistakes.
5. Make a group of 4 or 5, as necessary regarding the number of size and ask them to share what they have written with each other.
6. Listen to one or two answer and do add up the points if necessary.
7. At last, play the video again, to reinforce the learning.
Disadvantages of
video in teaching lessons
1. one of the main disadvantages of video in teaching lessons are it need equipments. If only one of the equipments fails then the whole process might get crashed.
2. Videos that are already will be hard to edit in order to make it short and to the learning objective.
3. Once learners get used to the video lessons then they
might feel independent to other learners which might make it lack from certain
criteria like collaborative work, critical thing
In Nutshell, world has advanced with its teaching strategies and adding videos in lesson plan has become one of it. It will be a part of future learning and teaching style.

Compelely package about video for teaching lessons. But some editing also needed..
ReplyDeleteI will surely do it on next timi
DeleteTeacher/Facilitator should be able to edit the videos for simple purpose like merging or splitting the clips.
ReplyDeleteI think it would be better mentioning few simple video editing software tools like windows movie maker.
Why video learning seems more effective than physical learning? What alternatives we have for no vision learners?
ReplyDeleteTo address your question people remember more when they see rather just listening.
DeleteFor no vision learners they can learn through kinesthetic , asthetic means by doing or touching and experiencing will help them
Creative writing .
ReplyDeletecreatively presented. better to mention video editing tools.
ReplyDeleteVery informative. Yes videos can be a good tool for teaching lessons.
ReplyDeleteof course , teaching with video will make students and classroom more interesting and attractive. In technical stream there are many theory and experiment listed but we don't have all the equipment to do that in practical so we show them the videos of related topics so they can learn easily.
